Statement of Faith
Scripture
-
The Canon of Scripture
consists of the 39 books of the Old Testament and the 27 books of the New
Testament.
-
The Bible, as originally
given, is the fully inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word of God. It is
the final authority on all matters of faith and conduct. (2Tim 3:15-17;
2Pet 1:19, 21; 2Tim 2:15)
-
The infallible rule as to the
interpretation of Scripture is Scripture itself.
(Matt 22:29; 2Pet 1:20,21; Acts
15:15-16)
Theology
-
There is only one true and
living God. (Deut 6:4; Jer 10:10)
-
God is Triune, eternally
co-existing co-equally in three persons: God the Father and God the Son
and God the Holy Spirit. These three are one God.
(John 6:27, Heb 1:8, Acts 5:3-4, John 15:26, 2Cor 13:14, Matt
28:19)
-
The Scriptures teach the full
deity and true humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth,
sinless life, atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into Heaven,
and His future personal, physical and visible, triumphant return. (Col
2:9, Philippians 2:5-11, Isa 7:14, Matt1:18, Luke 1:27-37, 2Cor 5:21, 1Pet
2:22, Heb 2:17, 1 Pet 1:3, 1Cor 15:20; Acts 1:9-11, Heb 1:3, Luke 22:69,
1Pet 3:22, Rev 19:11-21:8)
-
The first people, Adam and
Eve, were specially created by God, and all other men and women are their
descendants. Adam's sin brought God's curse on their dominion and on
mankind, culminating in separation from God and resulting in death (both
physical and spiritual) as the natural and proper consequence of sin. (Gen
1:27, Gen 2:22, Gen 3:20, Gen 2:16, Gen 3:6-7, Gen 3:14-19, Rom 8:20-22,
Rom 5:12-19, 1Cor 15:21; Rom 6:23)
-
Adam was the representative
head of Mankind. We are sinners, innately due to Adam's sin and by
personal choice and are therefore subject to God's wrath and
condemnation. (Rom 5:12-19, 1Cor 15:21)
-
Salvation is of the
Lord. It is by God's grace we are saved through faith, not by good
works. (Jonah 2:9, Hab 2:4; Eph 2: 8,9)
-
There can be no salvation for
fallen mankind except through the penal substitutionary death of the Lord
Jesus Christ on the cross. (Eph 1:7, Eph 2:13,
Col
1:14,
Col
1:20, Heb 9:22, Rev 1:5, Rev 5:9)
-
By the Grace of God people
are enabled to repent of their sin, trust in Christ as saviour and Lord,
depend on his finished work and are indwelt by the Holy Spirit who works
in them to bring them more and more in to conformity to the image of
Christ. (John 16:8, 1John 1:9, Rom 10:9-13, John 3:6-8, 1Cor 6:19, 2Cor
3:18, 1Pet 1:2)
-
Those who receive salvation
through Christ have everlasting life with God, whereas those who do not
accept this salvation, continue in their rebellion against God and will be
consigned to the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
(Dan 12:2, John 6:47, Matt25:31-46, Rev 20:11-15)
-
Scripture expressly explains
all things necessary for our salvation.
(2Tim 3:15)
Creation
-
In the beginning God created
the Heaven and the Earth. (Gen 1:1, John 1:3)
-
Genesis teaches that the
Universe and all things in it were supernaturally created by God in six
consecutive literal days; the seventh day immediately followed the
previous six and was also a literal day. In those seven days there was no
death, disease, suffering or sin. God's Creation was perfect. Death,
disease and suffering exist as a consequence of Adam's sin. (Gen
1:3-5, 6-8, 9-13, 14-18, 20-23, 24-31, Gen 2:2, Gen 2:16-17, Gen 3:6, 17,
Rom 5:12-19, 1Cor 15:21)
-
God created each distinct
kind of creature which could reproduce only within their kinds. (Gen 1:24)
-
Adam and Eve were the first
human beings created by God and all other humans are their descendants. (1Cor
15:45, Gen 3:20)
-
During the time of Noah there
was a catastrophic global flood covering
the entire face of the earth. (Gen 7:19-20, Gen
8:9)
-
The
historical events at the Tower of Babel described in Genesis 11 account for the worldwide dispersal of mankind and
the origins of nations and languages. (Gen
11:6-9)
-
Creation portrays God's
invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, so that man
is without excuse. Nevertheless,
the knowledge thus attainable is by itself insufficient to enable anyone
to secure personal salvation. (Rom 1:20, 2Pet
1:3, 2 Tim 3:14-16)
-
Knowledge and/or truth cannot
be dichotomised into secular and religious. (Mark 12:30)
